A Virtue of a Cracked Pottery Leaking Water

There was one water carrier who carried water from the well and sold water. He hangs two water potteries on the both ends of a long pole, and carried them over his shoulders. One pottery had a crack in its side and leaked out little by little. One cracked pottery was ashamed of its own imperfection and always felt sorry to only do half its part. Then one day, the pottery confessed its honest feelings to the owner. “I’m ashamed of myself to do half its part. So now, throw me away and buy a new pottery.” The owner, a water carrier, asked back. “Why are you embarrassed and sorry?” The pottery answered “Because of my flaws, you couldn’t get the full value for your efforts?”

The water carrier said to the hear-broken pot. “Look at the flowers on the road where we shuttle the water.” The pottery looked up and saw beautiful wild flowers in full bloom along the road. But strangely, the blooming flowers were lined up only on one side of the road, and on the other side, there was not a single flower. “Can you find that the flowers are blooming only on your side of the path? I recognized your flaws but I decided to take advantage of it, so I planted flower seeds in advance on your side of road. As a result, without you, those beautiful flowers couldn’t have bloomed in this world. That’s why you’re such a precious one, to the flowers and to me as well.

Each of us has our own unique flaws, but they can turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
