Make Chunhyangjeon become globalization

 

 

한국의 전통적 미인을 뽑아온 춘향선발대회에 외국인도 참가할 수 있게 됐다. 전라북도 남원시 춘향제전위원회는 “올해 시범적으로 외국인에게도 문호를 개방하기로 했다”며 “참가자의 국적 제한을 풀어 대상을 전 세계로 확대하고, 대회 명칭도 ‘글로벌 춘향선발대회’로 바꾼다”고 최근 발표했다. 이에 따라 올해 춘향선발대회에는 국적과 상관없이 1999년 1월 1일~2007년 12월 31일 사이에 출생한 고등학교 재학 이상 여성이면 누구나 참가 지원을 할 수 있게 됐다. 지금까지는 내국인과 해외동포만 참가할 수 있었다.

From now on, all foreigners can take a ticket for the Miss Chunghyang, which has selected Korean traditional beauties. The Chunghyangjeon committee, supported by the city of Namwon, Jeollabuk-do Province in Korea, recently announced that they will open its doors to foreigners on a trial basis and life nationality restrictions to expand contestant eligibility to the entire world, and also, the name of competition will be changed into ‘Global Chunhyangjeon Contest.’ Accordingly, from this year the Chunghyang Contest, regardless of nationality, any female born in between January 1st,1999 and December 31th, 2007, high-school students or higher, can apply to take part in the contest. So far, only Korean nationals and overseas Koreans have been able to do.

 

 

대회 관계자는 “우리나라 미인선발대회 중 가장 오랜 역사를 지닌 춘향선발대회가 남원춘향제와 함께 글로벌 축제로 발전해 K컬처를 세계로 확산하는 데 큰 역할을 할 것으로 기대한다”며 “다양한 문화와 배경을 가진 글로벌 인재들의 많은 관심과 참여를 기다리고 있다”고 밝혔다. 고전 소설 ‘춘향전’의 여주인공 이름을 따서 명명된 춘향선발대회는 1950년 처음 시작돼 올해로 74주년을 맞이하게 되며, 올해부터는 한국의 전통적 덕목을 전형적으로 보여주는 기존의 춘향 진·선·미·정·숙·현 6명 외에 외국인 지원자들을 대상으로 한 글로벌 뮤즈 상 2명을 추가로 선발한다. 수상자에겐 상금과 함께 남원시 홍보대사 자격이 주어진다.

One of staffs in committee said, “We are expected for The Miss Chunghyang Contest, which has the longest history among beauty pageant in Korea with NamwonChunghyangje to turn into a global festival and to play a significant role in the expansion of K-culture,” adding, “We are waiting for lots attentions and participations from the global talents with diverse cultures and backgrounds.” The Miss Chungyang Contest, was named after the heroine of the classical novel ‘Chunghyangjeon,’ first raised the curtain in 1950 and celebrate its 74th anniversary this year. Also from this year, it is scheduled to pick two additional Global Muse Awards from foreign applicants, other than the existing 6 winners, Jin, Seon, Mi, Jeong, Sook, Hyun. The winners will be entitled to be the status of public relations ambassador for the city of Namwon with prize money.

 

 

이번 대회 참가 신청은 다음 달 6일까지이고, 서류 심사와 1·2차 예선을 거쳐 본선 진출자 30명을 선발한다. 외국인 참가자에겐 항공권과 체재비가 제공된다. 이후 10박 11일간의 합숙을 거쳐 남원춘향제(5월10~16일) 폐막 전날인 5월 15일 최종 본선 대회가 광한루원에서 열린다. 춘향제전위원회는 “춘향제의 세계화를 위해 시범적으로 외국인 참가를 허용하기로 한 것”이라며 “효과들을 분석해 확대 여부를 논의할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

Application for participations in this competition is due by the 6th of next month. Through the document screening and preliminary rounds, 30 people will be selected. For the foreign participants, airline tickets and accommodation fees will be provided. Afterwards, all participants will have a training camp of 10 nights and 11 days and the final contest will be held in Gwanghanruwon in May 15th, the day before the closing ceremony. The Chunghyangjejeon committee said “For the globalization of the Chunghyangje, we temporally allow foreign competitors on a trail basis and after analyzing the effects we will discuss whether to expand it.”

 

춘향선발대회는 그동안 배우 최란(1979년)·박지영(1988년)·오정해(1992년)·윤손하(1994년)·장신영(2001년) 등 스타들을 배출해왔다.
