The world’s oldest person ever was a French woman, Jeanne Calment. She was born in 21st of February, 1875 and passed away in August 4th, 1997. She lived for 122 years. The oldest living person is 166-year-old Maria Branyas of Spain. Born in March 4th, 1907, when it was four months before Emperor Gojong was forcibly abdicated by Japanese army and King Sunjong ascended the throne in the Korean Peninsula.

A Spanish medical team is conducting research to uncover the secret to a long life by collecting DNA samples, including salvia and urine, from her. This is for the purpose of extending human lifespan by finding treatments against neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases caused by aging. She also readily agrees to the collection of tissue samples.

According to the Spanish daily ABC, she has no health complications other than hearing in one ear. Unlike most people her age, she has no memory loss or dementia. She has so much a lucid head that she can talk about her four-year-old stories as if it happened yesterday.

Deafness in one ear is caused by an injury at a young age and is not due to aging. Even now, she updates her social media channel on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), from time to time and let the fan knows her news and give an advice about secrets to longevity. Her nickname is ‘Super Grandma’.

She was born in San Francisco while her father stayed at the United States. During WW1, in the year of 1915, she lost her father due to his disease, pulmonary turberculosis, on the ship returning to Spain, and she fell from the deck and suffered permanent hearing loss in one ear. It was when she was 8 years old. She lived an easy life for the next 108 years, but that is not the secret of her longevity, living for 116 years. She went through deadly earthquake and fire, WW1, WW2, The Spanish civil war, a flu pandemic, and even contracted coronavirus in 2020, when she was 113 years old.

병을 앓아본(suffer from any illness) 적도, 수술을 받아본(undergo an operation) 적도 없다.

She has avoided overeating and picky eating, only ate small amounts evenly, and didn’t follow any particular dietary regime. She has never suffered from any illness and undergone an operation. The research team is scheduled to analyze her grandmother’s 6 billion DNA elements, focusing on 200 genes regarding aging. Some results already have been come out: genetic makeup doesn’t guarantee the longevity.

Grandma Branyas cited that harmony with family, friends, and nature, tranquility, emotional stability and positive mind as the secret of longevity, and said that there is another and the most important thing. “Be away from toxic people.”
