How a donkey could survive after falling into a well

 
 

한 농부의 당나귀가 우물에 빠졌다. 당나귀는 살려달라며 애처롭게 울어댔다. 농부는 어찌할 바를 몰라 허둥댔다. 무엇을 어떻게 해야 할지 생각해 내려고 애를 썼지만 별다른 방법이 떠오르지 않았다. 어떻게든 당나귀를 살리기 위해 이웃 사람들을 불러 도와달라고 하소연했다. 그러자 이웃들은 삽을 들고 우물 속에 흙을 퍼붓기 시작했다. 당나귀는 계속 처절하게 울었다. 그런데 얼마 후 모두가 놀랍게도 갑자기 조용해졌다. 이상하다고 여겨 우물 안을 내려다보다가 다들 깜짝 놀랐다. 한 삽 한 삽 흙이 당나귀 등 위로 떨어질 때마다 당나귀는 놀라운 행동을 하고 있었다. 등에 쏟아진 흙을 털어내고는 그 흙 위로 한 걸음 한 걸음 올라서고 있는 것이었다. 우물 안 당나귀 위에 삽으로 흙을 퍼부을수록 당나귀가 올라오는 위치는 점점 높아졌다. 그러더니 당나귀는 삽시간에 우물 가장자리로 올라섰고, 어느새 위기에서 벗어나 무사히 빠져나가는 것이었다. 수렁에 빠졌지만 끝까지 포하지 않았기 때문에 그 깊은 우물에서 빠져나올 수 있었던 것이다.
 
A farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The donkey cry piteously. The farmer was at a loss. He tried to figure out what to do, but couldn’t think of any other way. In order to save the donkey’s life, he begged for help. Then, the neighbors took up their shovels and started pouring dirt into the well. The donkey cried horribly. Then, after a while, everyone suddenly quieted down to everyone’s surprise. They considered weird, so they looked down into the well and was startled. Every time dirt fell on the donkey’s back, she did something amazing. She shook it off and climbed step by step on top of it.
The more dirt was shoveled on top of the donkey in the well, the higher the donkey climbed. Then, in no time, she stepped up over the edge of the well, and before we knew it, he had safely escaped from the crisis. Even though got bogged down by it, she didn’t give up until the end and finally was able to climb out of the deep well.
 
 
☞ 인생은 너에게 온갖 종류의 흙을 퍼부을(throw all kinds of dirt on you) 것이다. 그 흙을 털어버리고 (shake it off) 그 위로 한 걸음 더 올라서라.
Life is going to throw all kinds of dirt at you. Shake it off and take one more step upward.
